The Stoop are a band unrestricted by trivial things like geography. Four fifths Swiss, one fifth Canadian, they converge whenever they can and make the kind of music that would lift the spirit of a corpse. A corpse, goddammit.
Some history: Mathias Rathgeb and Jonas Greuter have been playing together for twenty years, starting in a group with the undeniable moniker 'Punk Panther' at age 13. Andreas Frei & Johannes Ruegg have also been playing together for twenty years and started out in teenage grunge bands in the '90s before moving into electronic-based music after the turn of the millennium. These four original members played together for six years, auditioning lead singers but unable to find a match for their esoteric ways.
In September 2012, shortly before the presumed end of the world, Jonas met James D. Bryan at a birthday party in Wetzikon, Switzerland where they bonded over red wine and fine tobacco. James was homesick and ready to leave back to Canada when Jonas invited him to audition for The Stoop. Long story short; by December 2014, their debut album was complete. We can presume that the audition is now over, and has been deemed successful by the band.
Their self-titled debut, released on Foof in April 2015, is an exceptionally charming collection of cerebral mini-masterpieces. You should definitely check it out.
